World War II love songs in Edison

The main branch of the Edison Public Library offers “While You’re Away: Love Songs of World War II.” The Sunday, July 19, 2 p.m., concert and lecture, features Prof. Diane Cypkin, Ph.D., and pianist Lena Panfilova. Dr. Cypkin will tell the backstories of songs like “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree” and “As Time Goes By” and anecdotes about such artists as Dame Vera Lynn and Edith Piaf.
Dr. Cypkin, the daughter and sister of Holocaust survivors, says that songs like these are deeply personal to her, and the concert is her thank you to the soldiers who saved her family.
